Benefits and Considerations of Ip Cameras and Pharmacy Surveillance

Pharmacies are often a target for theft. This is because they have a wide variety of different products and medications, many of which are for prescription-only. Pharmacies require constant Video Surveillance to keep track of those easy-to-snatch items and expensive prescription medication. IP network cameras are a great way to keep video surveillance on pharmacies because they offer both real-time surveillance, digital recording capabilities and much more.
The Benefits to IP Cameras
- One of the reasons that IP cameras are best for pharmacies is because they provide live video stream over the internet from anywhere in the world. What this means is that police, medics and security guards can watch what is happening in real-time without always having to be there. They can guard the pharmacy from remote computers which can save precious time, money and energy.
- Another great thing about IP cameras is that they can record video to remote PCs over the net as well. However, unlike the bulky analog form, IP cameras use digital technology which offers almost unlimited video recording power.
- IP cameras feature control pan/tilt and zoom features so you can direct the cameras to the best angle possible. You can ensure that you get the theft’s face.
- IP cameras can also be set up in both wireless and PoE (power over Ethernet) functions which mean lower installation costs and less wiring.

Considerations when it comes to IP Systems
- IP systems can be incredibly invasive on privacy, especially for your customers. Make sure you remain respectful by placing the IP cameras away from patient information and their medication history.
- When setting up an IP system, consider the size of your shop. Is it a small outlet or a larger store?
- Look at the current security that you have installed, if any. Use the IP cameras to complement the current video Surveillance System.
- Target high risk areas such as back corners, the cash register and the pharmacy where many thefts may occur.
- It’s also important to look into all areas of the store including garbage stations and storage facilities. Often theft will occur behind closed doors in the inventory section where it may seem easier to get away with it.
- If your pharmacy offers a drive through service, make sure you target the IP cameras to hit the license plates of the vehicles for quick and easy arrests.
